Jukari, A New Way to Move ...

Jukari is a Cirque Du Soleil inspired aerobic dance class partenered up with Reebok.  There are two differant styles of Jukari, Fly and Fit to Flex.  They unfortunately do not offer the Fly class yet, it uses trapeze, how fun would that be? At this time, there is only ONE place in the entire US that offers these classes and that so happens to be in the city of Las Vegas, where I just happen to live.  Outside of the 24Hr fitness clubs here, it is offered in Canada, where it originated.

When I first heard of this class, I came home and checked it out online to see what in the world Jukari was, as soon as I read "Cirque Du Soleil", I was in!!

My first time to try it out was this morning, I needed a really good stretch after pilates the other night and thought this would be a great fit.  HA!! Not only did it stretch me, I was sweating profusely 15 minutes into the class!! Jukari gives you the calorie burn of a Zumba class and the balance/flexibility training of yoga/pilates, joining the two together, you get one powerhouse of a workout and feel simply amazing afterwards.

The resistance/stability band is used to 1. give resistance when stretching, 2. help keep you balanced when doing poses such as the Flamingo or Jukari Dancer, and 3. as a part of dance as we sway it through the air or whip it to the ground.

If you live in the Las Vegas area, you must try this class.  24hr fitness offers a Free 7 day membership, if you do not already have one there, you can go online and print the coupon for it.  Or, if you happen to know me and would like to come with me, I can get you in as my guest for the day, either way, this class was a great way to start the day!

The Lengend of The Raindrop

My husband stumbled across this tiny booklet last nite, it was inside an electric shaver box and must have belonged to my Grandad.  The Legend of The Raindrop is an inspirational poem by Helen Steiner Rice from her book of verses "A Time For Rejoicing".  This little poem was featured on the Lawrence Welk Show and was published as a mini greeting card in Cincinnati, OH.  There is no date present anywhere, but the booklet is worn and has that antique look.  I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.

                The Legend of The Raindrop

The legend of the raindrop has a lesson for us all
As it trembled in the heavens questioning whether is should fall ...

For the glistening raindrop argued to the genie of the sky,
I am beautiful and lovely as I sparkle here on high ...

And hanging here I will become part of the rainbow's hue
And I'll shimmer like a diamond for all the world to view ...

But the genie told the raindrop, "Do not hesitate to go
For you will more beautiful if you fall to earth below.
For you will sink into the soil and be lost a while from sight,
But when you reappear on earth, you'll be looked on with delight.
For you will be the raindrop that quenched the thirsty ground,
And helped the lovely flowers to blossom all around.
And in your resurrection you'll appear in queenly clothes,
With the beauty of the lily and the fragrance of the rose.
Then when you wilt and wither, you'll become part of the earth
And make the soil more fertile and give new flowers birth."

For there is nothing ever lost or eternally neglected
For EVERYTHING God ever made is always resurrected.

So trust God's all wise wisdom and doubt the Father never
For in His Heavenly Kingdom there is nothing lost forever.

"Happy Thoughts" ...

With all the BIG things going on in the world, in your finances, in your health, or even with relationships, the most important thing is to remain happy and be at peace within your own self.  I recently watched the movie Hook, and the only thing that can make you fly, with the help of a little fairy dust of course, are your "Happy Thoughts", something so easy and so small.  Today, I am very happy with all the little things in my life that make me smile.

Here are just a few of my "happy thoughts" for today ... ... ...

This morning, the ground was wet from the rain during the night as we slept, where this may seem normal to those in the midwest or more wet climates, it is not for the desert, and this small thing always makes me smile inside.  I love the smell the rain brings and even though there were grey clouds this morning, the sun has pushed back the grey and left the most beautiful fluffy clouds today.

My Breakfast this morning! Whole wheat Artisan  English muffins were on sale when I did my grocery shopping this last week and this morning I cut one open, toasted it and spread all natural peanut butter over the it and added a few dried cranberries to top it off.  It was so delicious and I really enjoyed it this morning.

Most of you who read this blog know that my job is the most fun job ever!! Ok, well for me it is anyways! I am an independent jewelry consultant for the growing Lia Sophia jewelry company in direct sales.  I trained my new start this weekend at her first show, which was a HUGE success.  I have the most beautiful jewelry display ever, that was obtained with all my certificate earnings in the past months of working, and today while helping a lady I have never met with an order, I booked her a jewelry shopping spree of her own!! My job makes me smile, and the opportunity it brings women everywhere, makes me very happy!

And last but not least of things making me smile today, a glass of Coke.  Where I do not drink this lovely drink near as often as I use to, some days, it cures all things unhappy or feeling under the weather.  "Have a Coke and a smile" is their slogan, and for me it rings true every time I have one.

Today if I could find a fairy, and shake her to get some dust on me, I believe I could fly anywhere I wanted.  What things make you smile and are you "Happy Thoughts" in life??

God's Canvas

There is absolutely nothing like being on the back of my husbands motorcycle with the wind in my face and the smell of nature swirling around you.  Last Monday, we got up early on my husbands day off, dressed for a chilly morning, with cooler clothes packed away for later, put on our gloves, glasses and helmets, and took off for a day of adventure.

When you are on a bike, your senses come alive! You see things you don't normally see in an enclosed vehicle, you smell the city for the first time and you hear everything around you in a very clear way.  It is important to be super alert on a bike.  This way, you are ready for anything that may happen, and thankfully we are always prayed up before a ride and have never encountered accidents or even close accidents.

On our ride this day, I saw the Las Vegas Speedway for the first time, it is monstrous, the Nellis Air force Base, which is also monstrous,  had 2 jets taking off right in front of us for their morning run.  The smell of breakfast was in the air, and by the time we got to our meeting spot, I was starving and ready to "fill up" for the ride.  We are always early for everything, our friends are always late, lucky for me, everyone was on time today and my breakfast tasted amazing.

Tummies full. Bikes full. Its time to RIDE!!
Destination of the day: The Valley of Fire

As we slowed down to approach the entrance of the park, I was in awe.  I have never seen anything so beautiful and its magnitude is like that of the Grand Canyon, in my opinion.  Seeing the reason for its name right away, the mountains are FIRE red, orange and yellow.  They have been there a very long time so some of the walls have been hallowed out by the wind or have been left with a sort of honeycomb look, small holes going in and out of the mountains walls.  One had ancient writings you could climb up to see,  one mountain in front of us looked like a wave about to come crashing down, it swooped over and over.  The farther into the park we got, the more breath taking it became.  With red all around you, the sun shining high and the desert glowing, how can one not see the beauty of God and know how amazing He truly is?

The experience of the ride to The Valley of Fire was simply amazing, unlike any other ride we have ever been on.  I wish I had the words to describe to you how these magnificent, breath taking, beauty, and strength filled mountains really made me feel.  There really are no words.  All I can say, is that they made me feel closer to God in some way, knowing how He formed each rock and the colour as if He painted His daily masterpiece right into these rocks.  The desert of Nevada truly is a most amazing place, even if the day after I have to suffer with allergy sniffles and puffy eyes, God's wonder was seen by this rider in His canvas called The Valley of Fire.

Zumba!!

This funny word is an aerobic dance that is sweeping our nation.  With high energy, intense movements, and the most fun upbeat music to dance to, you can finally work out by just letting loose and enjoying the DANCE!!

I had done the DVD version with the creator Zumba several times and thoroughly enjoyed it.  This week, I went online,  printed off a 7 day pass for the 24hr fitness gym right around the corner from where I live, and joined in on my first live class.  It was a packed class,  with people of all ages, sizes and ethnicity, both male and female, all with one goal in mind, to shed some pounds and enjoy every moment of it through dance! How fun to be in a room full of so many people just having a good time and getting into shape.  By the end of the class, not a person was dry, as sweat ran from everyone's face, still smiling after the fun they had just accomplished!

My next class is in the morning and I plan to enjoy every minute of the hour I will sweat like crazy and just get loose to the music of Zumba!

If you have the opportunity to take a class ... DO IT! You will not regret it and you will have the most fun anyone can have while working out!!  Zumba is for everyone and you will have so much fun!

Having Patience in Apartment living

Today I realized it has been a while since my last entry and as I sat here thinking of what to write, there are MANY things going on outside my lovely apartment.  Therefore, I thought I would share with all of you the patience one must have daily while living in an apartment complex.

First, you must know that I absolutely LOVE the apartments we live in.  There are 2 pools, one of which is heated and has a beautiful rock formation with waterfall and palm trees all around it, making you feel as though you have left the US and are vacationing somewhere fabulous.  The other Pool, where I tend to spend most sunny mornings getting a little sun, is quiet, peaceful and extremely relaxing.  Both pools have a hot tub, which I have not taken advantage of yet.  There is a walking path at the back of the complex, it is a gated community and no one living inside has a criminal record, I know this because I was checked before they allowed us to move in and for this I am very grateful.  These apartments are safe and when living in a big city like we do, safety is always a good thing.

On to my point of writing today.  Like I said, there are MANY things going on outside.  My windows are open since we are having amazing weather lately and with the windows open, you hear EVERYTHING and smell everything!  Here is what I generally hear and smell on a daily basis.

Hearing:

1. Kids playing in the street, something that I love.  The sound of their little scooters racing down the sidewalks, the balls bouncing as they play four square and the laughter as they have fun just being kids.

2. Our new neighbors most annoying dog barking constantly.  This is something I dislike very much.  The people who use to live there had a little barking dog, and now the new people do to.  He is a VERY cute puppy, looks like a baby Ewok, but really, do they have to let him on to the balcony and just bark non stop without even trying to stop him? Then you add the 2 year old child they have, who mimics the dog, it was cute at first, now not so much.  Makes me think about how every person is different in training, both animals and their children.

3.  Golf Carts.  The amazing maintenance staff here all drive golf carts.  They have a very distinct sound.  Its not something that bothers me, its peaceful.  It is also nice knowing if I needed something, they are right there to help with whatever it is, changing a light bulb, fixing the garbage disposal, changing the air filters, our maintenance staff is amazing and for that I am very grateful.

4.  Airplanes. Depending on the weather and the wind, the airplanes fly literally over my house sometimes.  At first this kind of freaked me out, now it has become a relaxing background noise to life.

5.  And lastly for today, one of my most favorite sounds I hear in the evening, the Ice cream Truck.  Do you know how long it has been since I have heard the sweet kid like music from an ice cream truck? It comes by just the outside of my apartment where the school baseball field is in the early evenings and each time I find myself with a smile as I remember the joy of eating ice cream as a child from these wonderful trucks!!

As far as the smell, there is only one thing.  I never smell the garbage bins that are just across from us and I never smell jet fuel as they fly too high for that.  The only thing I ever smell is the disgusting stench of cigarette smoke.  Living in an apartment, you don't get the best sealing for your windows, so even with the windows shut, the smoke seems to work its way into my home.  The worst of it is when the people behind us smoke in their home and the stench comes into my bedroom making it smell as if we were the ones smoking, which we are most definitely not!!

Apartment living has its ups and downs just like any other thing.  I for one have learned to have more patience with people living here and hearing unwanted noises than living in a house where you feel all alone inside.  Here, there is always something going on and whether you want to be a part of it or not, sometimes you just have to be patient and live with it knowing life is just too short to get your feathers all ruffled up over something as silly as a dog barking constantly, so I say it is better to sit on my porch and enjoy a good book, and yes, with that dog barking in the background.

You know it's GOOD ... ... ...

It's times like today when you know that you are doing something right in your life.

A few weeks ago, my neighbor and good friend was having a bad toothache.  After recommending a great dentist at an even greater price, I found myself sitting in a black metal chair in the corner of a dentist office consoling my friend at the news of having to get a few fillings.  No one likes going to the dentist, no matter how old we get, it's just one of those things we do not enjoy much.  So, after 2 visits for fillings, lots of Novocain, and a couple trips to Starbucks to make her feel better, things were starting to look up.

Today, my friend calls me and says that I have no choice what we are about to do. GREAT!! What could she be talking about right? "We are going to go get our nails done together." she says.  WOW!! What a sweetheart! All I did was lend my friendship hand to help her through a tough dentist visit and she is completely spoiling me today.

We meet at my house, go to Starbucks for a skinny caramel macchiato, and head to the nail salon where we pick the same bright pink polish, snuggle into the comfy big oversized massage chairs and slip our toes into the bubbly warm water. Total relaxation!  What a wonderful feeling as someone else works to make your feet sandel worthy again by soaking, scrubbing and massaging, then after painting them all pretty pink, they switch to your hands where the whole process begins again!!

After the pampering was finished and we took ourselves to Target to browse a sale rack or two, we came back to my humble abode to play cards and have a glass of wine, only we never played cards, we just began to talk.

You know you are doing something right in your life when a person you meet in the gym becomes the closest friend you have in a big intimidating city, where that person can tell you all their deepest darkest secrets and you can do the same with them.  You know its good because you aren't afraid to share about the real reason life is simply good.  You know its good when you both have the best time together, laughing, crying, being serious or cracking jokes, and most of all you know are doing something right in your life when GOD is in a friendship and you know because of that, that friendship will last a very long time!

Big City Lights

Living in a Big city has its ups and downs just like living anywhere else, but the one thing that never gets old here for me are the beautiful lights of  Las Vegas.

The "Ups: ...

The Lights!! My husband and I still love to take a drive at night down the famous Las Vegas Strip and I always feel like a tourist with my head cocked up to the sky looking around at all the flashing lights, with my window down listening to the fountains at the Bellagio or the crazy music coming from the bars, this never gets old.

The amazing food!! Everywhere you go there is an All You Can Eat Buffet, which can also be bad due to the amount of food consumed there.  We have found a great little Italian sandwich place called Cappriottis that has the best cooked to order sandwiches. My favorite is called the "Bobbie", a great little mix of cold turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce, all on a whole wheat bread. YUMMO!! There is also pizza, sushi, Thai food, authentic Mexican, Asian, fast food of all kinds, and exquisite sit down restaurants that can cost you a little or a whole lot!

The Weather!! Now, I know I really shouldn't brag about this one too much, and I promise I won't, just for all my friends in the mid west.  But, come on, to not have to wear the heaviest coat, gloves, hat and scarf you own in the middle of January, that is something to be really happy about!!  So, that is all I will say there!!

The "Downs" ...

The Prices!! Where there are several amazing discount shopping malls around and some great free things to do for fun, the cost of living is way different than that of the mid west.  Rent is higher. Gas is higher.  Some food is higher.  Going to the movies is higher.  And most, if not all, locals do not do "touristy" things in town.

The People!!  I hate to say it, but the people here are most different than anything else to me.  People stick to themselves for the most part, are not too friendly and are very hard to make friends with for that matter.  In the short amount of time we have lived here, I have 1 person that I hang out with regularly.  The city is full of tourist and that is what keeps our city hoppin!!

The Driving!! Oh yes, lets not get me started on that one!! hahaha!!!! I do not ever, in any circumstance take the freeway here.  I will avoid it all costs and take a longer alternate route if needed.  I know I sound crazy, but after witnessing 2 cars race coming onto the freeway and spin out across 6 lanes of traffic to the other side (unharmed thank goodness)  my first week here, I just don't do it!! However, I do love driving here.  I have learned to be the patient driver as everyone is always in a hurry, not using their turn signals and cutting you off if they can, so I suppose that is a good thing since I learned to not have so much road rage. hahaha

There are many many other Ups and Downs of living here, but these are just a few I think of on a regular basis.  Living in a big city has been the most drastic, hard and wonderful transition I have ever made.  Las Vegas may not be the choice of many people, but for us, it is where we were led to come and have each and every need met daily as we continue to put God first and let our Light shine no matter how hard life in this so called "Sin City" can be.
